Types of Diversity

Working within a transdisciplinary and/or international research group involves recognizing how other people understand and solve problems, as well as cultural ways of interacting in a group setting. This exercise is meant to raise awareness among team members so they can prepare for the rewards and challenges of writing a group research proposal.

The main criteria for the CRN3 proposal includes the integration of disciplines, the “contribution to effective networking across the Americas, with teams representing the diversity of scientific knowledge” from different countries and “regional and gender balance [and] equitable participation in research.” For this assignment, the group or class will break into small groups of 3-4 people and complete tasks 1 and 2 before the next meeting or class session.

Task 1: Explain the multi- or transdisciplinary and multi-national approach of your proposed research, including the integration of natural and social science, enhancement of networks and partnerships, etc.

Use the following types of diversity to frame your response:

  1. Demographic diversity

  2. Psychological diversity

  3. Organizational diversity

  4. Other?

Task 2: Provide a short explanation of the roles and contributions of each Co-PI, and provide a description of the role of different sites and countries in contributing to the project objectives. Please also provide a short, one-page CV for each person in the group.
